Turn a Word document into a PDF that looks the same on every device, for applications, invoices and anything you do not want edited. The DOCX is read in your browser, its headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and pictures are laid out on A4 or Letter pages, and a PDF is generated on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

What is Word to PDF?

Our word to pdf converter turns a Word document (.docx) into a PDF in your browser. It lays out your headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and pictures on A4 or US Letter pages with the margins you choose, and gives you a PDF that looks the same on every device.

Word files can shift when they are opened on another computer, with missing fonts, moved pictures and different page breaks. A PDF fixes the layout in place, which is what you want for job applications, invoices, reports and anything you do not want accidentally edited.

How to convert Word to PDF

  1. Drop a DOCX file.
  2. Choose page size and margins.
  3. Download the PDF.

How Word to PDF works

A DOCX file is a ZIP package of XML files: one describes the text and its styles, others hold images, numbering and settings. To convert it, the tool reads that package in your browser and turns the content into a web-style layout with headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and embedded pictures.

That layout is then cut into pages of the size you picked, keeping blocks together so a paragraph is not split across pages unless it is taller than a page. Each page is drawn as a high-resolution image and placed in a PDF. Rendering pages this way keeps them looking the same everywhere, but the text inside is not selectable.

If you need selectable, searchable text, use the Text PDF button on the result. It opens your browser's print dialog, where Save as PDF writes the text as real text. Word-specific layout such as headers, footers, text boxes and columns is simplified. Everything runs locally, and nothing is sent to a server.

Key features of Word to PDF

Free, no watermark

Convert DOCX to PDF for free, with no watermark on the pages. Drop several Word files at once and each one becomes its own PDF, ready to download individually or together.

Fixed, consistent pages

Pages are rendered as high-resolution images, so the PDF looks the same on every phone, tablet and computer. Choose A4 or US Letter, set margins from 5 to 40 mm, and pick High sharpness for crisper text.

Converted on your device

There is no server and no conversion queue. A typical few-page document becomes a PDF within seconds; long documents with many images take a little longer, depending on your device's speed.

No Word installation needed

Convert Word to PDF on a Chromebook, a borrowed laptop or a phone that has no Office apps. It works in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.

Settings that suit keyboards

Page size, margins and sharpness are labelled controls that work with Tab, Enter and arrow keys. Progress is announced to screen readers. For a PDF with real text, use the Text PDF print option.

Documents stay private

Your DOCX is read and laid out entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so CVs, invoices, contracts and internal reports stay on your device. You can check the network tab to confirm it.

What makes EZ Compress's Word to PDF different

1

Two kinds of PDF

You get an image-based PDF that looks identical everywhere, plus a Text PDF button that saves a version with selectable text through your browser's print dialog. Most tools only give you one or the other.

2

No server, no watermark

A typical docx to pdf service sends your document to its servers and may keep a copy. Here the file is converted in your own browser tab, and no watermark is added.

3

Honest about layout

Headings, lists, tables and images come through; headers, footers, text boxes, columns and custom fonts are simplified. For a pixel-perfect copy of a complex layout, Word's own Save as PDF is still best.

Why use Word to PDF?

Use it when you need a PDF and do not have Word to hand. Many application portals, landlords and clients ask for PDF only, and a phone or Chromebook may not have Office installed. Drop the DOCX, choose A4 or Letter and download a PDF you can attach straight away.

Converting also protects the look of your document. Fonts, spacing and page breaks are fixed, so a CV or invoice reads the same for everyone. If you want to convert word to pdf with searchable text, for example so an applicant tracking system can read your CV, use the Text PDF button and save from the print dialog.

Word to PDF: frequently asked questions

How do I convert Word to PDF?
Drop one or more DOCX files, choose A4 or US Letter, set the margins and sharpness, then click Convert to PDF. Download the PDF when it is ready.
Will the PDF look exactly like Word?
Content, headings, lists, tables and images are preserved. Word-specific layout such as custom fonts, headers and footers, text boxes and columns is simplified. For a pixel-perfect copy, use Save as PDF inside Word.
Is the text selectable in the PDF?
Pages are rendered as high-resolution images, so the text is not selectable. For selectable text, click Text PDF on the result and choose Save as PDF in the print dialog.
Does it convert .doc to PDF?
No, it reads .docx only (Word 2007 and later). For doc to pdf, open the .doc in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice, save it as DOCX, then convert that file here.
Can I convert DOCX to PDF on my phone?
Yes. Open the page on iPhone or Android, tap the drop area, pick the DOCX from Files or Drive, and tap Convert to PDF. The PDF saves to your phone.
What does the Sharpness setting do?
High renders pages at a higher resolution for crisper text and images but a larger file. Normal makes a smaller PDF that is still clear on screen.
Does my document leave my device?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser, so the Word file and the finished PDF stay on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which you can confirm in the network tab.
Does it work with .doc files?
Only DOCX (Word 2007 and later). Open the .doc in Word or Google Docs and save as DOCX first.
Is my document sent to a server?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser.
