How Signature Background Remover works

Pixels brighter than the threshold are treated as paper and made fully transparent; darker pixels are kept as ink.
Ink edges are handled gently. Pixels just below the threshold become partly transparent rather than cut off sharply, so pen strokes keep smooth, anti-aliased edges instead of jagged steps. If you choose a fixed ink colour, every kept pixel is recoloured while keeping that soft edge.
Finally, the transparent border around the signature is trimmed to a small margin, so the PNG is no bigger than it needs to be. Raising the sensitivity removes more grey paper and shadow; lowering it keeps faint, light strokes.
