AVIF is the newest web image format: tiny files, but many apps and upload forms reject it. Convert AVIF to JPG right here, in the browser, with nothing sent to a server and no file limit.
What is AVIF to JPG?
Our avif to jpg converter turns AVIF images, the newest and smallest web photo format, into JPG files that every app, printer and upload form understands. More and more sites serve AVIF behind the scenes, so the picture you save from a page can arrive as a .avif that your editor, phone gallery or email client cannot open.
The converter uses your browser's own AVIF decoder, so nothing is sent to a server and there is no file limit. Set the JPG quality, choose a background colour for transparent areas, convert a single image or a whole batch, and download the results individually or as a ZIP.

How AVIF to JPG works
AVIF stands for AV1 Image File Format. It was published in 2019 by the Alliance for Open Media and stores a single frame compressed with AV1, a royalty-free video codec, inside the same HEIF container family Apple uses for HEIC. AV1 uses large, flexible block sizes and strong prediction, which is why AVIF is often about half the size of a JPG that looks the same.
AVIF can also hold 10-bit and 12-bit colour, HDR, wide colour gamuts and transparency. JPG is limited to 8-bit colour with no alpha channel, but it has been readable by almost everything since the 1990s. Converting trades file size for compatibility.
Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 16 or newer decode AVIF natively. This tool asks your browser to decode the image onto a canvas, fills any transparent pixels with your chosen colour and encodes a standard JPEG. HDR images are mapped into normal 8-bit colour along the way.
Key features of AVIF to JPG
Free with no file limit
Convert one AVIF or a whole folder without paying or getting a watermark. There is no size cap imposed by a server, only your device's memory, and batches download together in a single ZIP.
Faithful 8-bit JPG output
Dimensions are preserved exactly and the quality slider runs from 40% to 100%, defaulting to 90%. Standard AVIF photos come out looking the same as they did in the browser that displayed them.
Native decoding, no wait
Your browser already ships an AVIF decoder, so no library has to download and your images stay on your device. Most images convert in a second or less, even on a mid-range phone.
Every current browser
Works in current Chrome, Edge and Firefox on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, and in Safari 16 or later on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Older browsers that cannot decode AVIF show a clear error instead of a broken file.
Keyboard and reader support
Quality, background and download controls are fully keyboard operable and properly labelled. Screen readers hear progress through a live region, and the page supports dark mode, zoom and small screens without time limits.
Saved images stay local
AVIF files you have saved, from private dashboards, client sites or paid image libraries, are converted inside your browser and never sent to a server. Check the network tab and you will see no image data leaving.
What makes EZ Compress's AVIF to JPG different
Uses the browser's own decoder
There is no third-party conversion server and no extra download. The same AVIF engine that displays images on the web decodes your file, so results match what you saw on the page.
Clear message on old browsers
If your browser is too old to decode AVIF, the tool says so rather than producing a blank or corrupt JPG. Updating the browser to a current version fixes it straight away.
Batch and ZIP included
Convert a whole set of saved AVIF images at once and download every JPG together in one ZIP. File names are kept, with only the extension changed, so nothing gets mixed up.
Why use AVIF to JPG?
Convert AVIF to JPG when the file has to go somewhere that does not understand it yet. Older Photoshop and Office versions, many Windows photo viewers, photo printing services, e-commerce uploaders and messaging apps still reject AVIF, while JPG is accepted almost universally.
It is also the quick fix for images saved from modern websites and image CDNs, which increasingly serve AVIF automatically. This AVIF converter lets you change the format in bulk, choose the quality, and carry on with your work instead of hunting for a plugin.

Settings explained
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Quality | Higher keeps more detail but makes a larger file. 80–90% is visually identical to the original for most photos. |
| Background for transparency | Colour used where the source had transparency, since this output format cannot store it. |
