Photographed a printed page, received a scanned letter as a JPG, or screenshotted a document you need to edit? Drop the images here and get a Word file with the recognised text, one page per image, ready to edit. OCR runs in your browser, so private documents stay on your device.
What is JPG to Word?
Our jpg to word converter reads the text in a photo or scan of a document and puts it into an editable Word file (DOCX). Drop one image or several, choose the language, and you get one DOCX with a page for each image, ready to edit in Word or Google Docs.
It is for the moments when a document only exists as a picture: a photographed letter, a scanned form sent as a JPG, or a screenshot of terms you need to quote. Instead of retyping it, you start from recognised text and fix the few errors.
How to convert JPG to Word
- Drop one or more images in page order (use ↑ ↓ to reorder).
- Pick the language of the text.
- Download the DOCX and edit it in Word or Google Docs.
How JPG to Word works
A JPG stores colours, not letters, so Word cannot edit a photo of text. To get editable words, the image goes through OCR (optical character recognition). The engine finds the text areas, splits them into lines and words, and uses a trained neural network to decide which characters the shapes represent.
This tool uses Tesseract running in your browser via WebAssembly. Each language has its own trained model, so choosing the right language matters, especially for Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Russian or Chinese scripts. The model downloads the first time you use that language and then stays cached.
The recognised text is split into paragraphs wherever the engine sees a blank line, and the paragraphs are written into a standard DOCX file, with a page break between images. Fonts, columns and tables are not rebuilt, because OCR reads words, not styles. Optionally the original picture is placed on each page too.
Key features of JPG to Word
Free OCR to DOCX
Turn a batch of images into Word documents in one run, with no watermark. Several photos become one DOCX, with a page per image, so a multi-page letter stays together.
95–99% on clear print
Sharp, well-lit photos of printed text usually come out 95–99% accurate. Crop to the page, keep it straight and avoid shadows. Handwriting, faded print and low-contrast text are much less reliable.
Seconds per page
After the one-off language download, each image is recognised in a few seconds on a typical laptop. There is no server or queue, so speed depends only on your device.
Snap and convert on mobile
On iPhone or Android, take a photo of a page and pick it from your gallery. HEIC photos from iPhones are accepted alongside JPG, PNG, WEBP and BMP, with no app to install.
Labelled, keyboard-ready controls
The language menu, reorder arrows and image switch are labelled and work with the keyboard. Progress is announced to screen readers, and the output is a plain Word document that assistive tools read well.
Images processed locally
Recognition runs in your browser, so photos of letters, IDs or medical notes are never sent to a server. Only the language model is downloaded, once. That is the main difference from server-based converters.
What makes EZ Compress's JPG to Word different
Many images, one document
Drop several photos and use the arrows to put them in page order. They become one DOCX with page breaks between them, rather than a separate file per picture to stitch together later.
Keep the original alongside
Switch on Also include the original image and each page shows the photo above its recognised text. That makes proofreading easy and keeps tables, signatures, logos or stamps visible in the document.
Twelve languages, local OCR
Choose from English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Chinese, Russian and Turkish. Every jpg to word conversion runs entirely on your own device, not on a remote server.
Why use JPG to Word?
Retyping a document from a photo takes ages and invites mistakes. Converting the image to Word gets you most of the way in seconds, so you only correct the odd word. It is ideal for updating an old printed letter, filling in a form you received as a JPG, or reusing text from a printed brochure.
The same tool handles image to word, picture to word and photo to word jobs, and PNG to Word works just as well for screenshots. The output is a jpg to docx conversion that opens in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages, so you can edit, format and share it however you normally work.
