One converter for everything: drop a mix of HEIC, AVIF, WEBP, PNG, BMP, GIF, SVG or JPG files and get them all back in the format you pick. Decoding and encoding run on your device, so nothing is sent to a server, there is no queue and no file-size limit beyond your own memory.

What is Image Converter?

Our image converter changes almost any common picture format into JPG, PNG or WEBP in one place. Drop a mixed batch of HEIC, AVIF, WEBP, PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP and SVG files and get them all back in the single format you choose, without hunting for a separate tool for each type.

Decoding and encoding happen on your device, so nothing is sent to a server, nothing waits in a queue and there is no file size limit beyond your own memory. Choose the output format, set the quality, pick a background colour for transparent areas, and download the files individually or as one ZIP.

How to use the Image Converter

  1. Drop any mix of images.
  2. Choose the output format and quality.
  3. Download individually or as a ZIP.

How Image Converter works

Every image format is a different way of storing the same thing: a grid of coloured pixels. Converting means decoding the source into raw pixels and encoding those pixels into a new format. Your browser can already decode JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, WEBP and AVIF natively. HEIC is decoded by a library loaded on first use, and SVG is rendered at 1024 pixels wide.

The output format decides what happens to those pixels. JPG uses lossy compression tuned for photos and cannot store transparency, so clear areas get your background colour. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, making it ideal for graphics and screenshots. WEBP offers both lossy and transparent images at smaller sizes than either, for use on the web.

Some details do not survive any conversion: animated GIF and WEBP give their first frame, and metadata such as GPS location is not written to the new file. TIFF and camera RAW files are not supported in the browser.

Key features of Image Converter

Free all-in-one converter

Convert any mix of supported formats for free in one batch, with no watermark on the output. Batch conversion and ZIP download are included, so a folder of mixed files needs one visit.

Nine input formats

JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG, HEIC and HEIF go in, and JPG, PNG or WEBP come out at the original dimensions. The quality slider runs from 40% to 100%.

Fast, local processing

Skipping the server and its queue means most images convert in a second or two. HEIC files need a one-time decoder download, and very large images take longer on phones. Batches run back to back.

Runs everywhere

Works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad. Add it to your home screen or desktop as an app for quick access.

Accessible for all

Format menu, quality slider, colour picker and buttons are fully keyboard operable and labelled for screen readers, with progress announced in a live region. Dark mode and zoom are supported.

Private by default

Your images are decoded and re-encoded in your browser and never stored on a server. Location and camera metadata are left out of the converted files, which suits images you plan to share.

What makes EZ Compress's Image Converter different

1

Mixed batches in one go

Most converters handle one input type per page. Here a single batch can mix iPhone HEIC photos, AVIF downloads, PNG screenshots and SVG icons, all converted to one output format.

2

No size cap from a server

Because your files never go to a server, there is no 10 MB or 50 MB ceiling. The only limit is your device's memory, and very large images over 50 megapixels may be slow on phones.

3

Your choice of background

When transparent images go to JPG, you choose the fill colour rather than getting an unpredictable black, which keeps logos and stickers looking right. White is the default fill colour.

Why use Image Converter?

Use a single image converter when your files arrive in a mix of formats: iPhone photos as HEIC, website downloads as WEBP or AVIF, screenshots as PNG. Converting everything to JPG makes a set ready for a form, a printer or a client in one step.

It is equally handy in the other direction. Change image format to WEBP for faster web pages, or to PNG for editing, without installing desktop software. This photo converter works on any computer or phone you happen to be using, including shared and work machines.

Who can use Image Converter?

Office workers

Standardise a mix of photos, screenshots and downloaded graphics into JPG or PNG for reports, slide decks and shared drives.

Web content editors

Convert incoming images of every format to WEBP before uploading them to the CMS, keeping page weight down. No plugin needed.

Parents and families

Turn a mixed folder of phone photos from different devices into JPGs that every relative's computer and photo frame can open.

Students

Convert assignment images to whatever format a learning portal accepts, from any device, including school computers where installing software is blocked.

Customer support teams

Convert customer-supplied images in unusual formats into JPG or PNG that ticketing systems and internal tools can display. The images never leave your computer.

Settings explained

SettingWhat it does
Convert toOutput format. "Keep original" preserves the input format where possible.
QualityHigher keeps more detail but makes a larger file. 80–90% is visually identical to the original for most photos.
Background for transparencyColour used where the source had transparency, since this output format cannot store it.
Keep EXIF / location dataOff by default, so GPS and camera data are removed. Turn on to copy the date, camera details and location from a JPG or iPhone HEIC into the JPG output.

Image Converter: frequently asked questions

Which formats can this image converter open?
JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF (first frame), BMP, SVG, HEIC and HEIF. TIFF and camera RAW files such as CR2, NEF or DNG are not supported in the browser yet.
Which output format should I choose?
JPG for photos you want to share or upload, PNG for graphics, screenshots and anything with transparency, and WEBP for the smallest files on websites.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit, because your images are never sent to a server. Very large images, roughly over 50 megapixels, may be slow or run out of memory on phones. A laptop or desktop handles them more comfortably.
Can I convert different formats in one batch?
Yes. Drop HEIC, PNG, WEBP, AVIF and other files together. They are all converted to the single output format you select, and you can download them as one ZIP.
What happens to animated GIFs?
Only the first frame is converted, because JPG, PNG and this tool's WEBP output are single still images. The animation and remaining frames are not kept in the output.
How do I change an image's format on a phone?
Open this page in Safari or Chrome, tap the drop area, choose images from your gallery or files, pick JPG, PNG or WEBP and convert. Files save to Downloads or Files.
Does converting change the image dimensions?
No. The output has exactly the same width and height as the source. SVG files are the exception: they have no fixed pixel size, so they are rendered 1024 pixels wide.
Which input formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF (first frame), BMP, SVG, HEIC and HEIF. TIFF and RAW are not supported in the browser yet.
Which format should I choose?
JPG for photos, PNG for graphics with transparency, WEBP for the smallest web files.
