A client sends a PSD and you just need to see or use the image. This converter reads the flattened composite stored inside the PSD and saves it as JPG, entirely in your browser. No Photoshop is needed, and the design never leaves your device.

What is PSD to JPG?

Our psd to jpg converter opens Adobe Photoshop files in your browser and saves them as JPG images, with no Photoshop licence needed. Drop a PSD or PSB and you get the finished design as a standard picture you can view, email, post or place in a document.

Designers send PSDs because that is how they work, but most people on the receiving end have nothing that can open them. Clients approving a layout, developers needing a mockup and printers checking a proof only need to see the final image. A JPG gives them exactly that, at a fraction of the file size.

How to convert PSD to JPG

  1. Drop one or more PSD files.
  2. Choose the JPG quality.
  3. Download the JPG files or a ZIP.

How PSD to JPG works

A PSD is a layered document: every photo, text block, shape and adjustment lives on its own layer, along with masks, blend modes and effects. When Photoshop saves with Maximize Compatibility turned on, which is the default, it also stores a flattened composite, a single image of what the whole document looks like.

This converter reads the file with ag-psd, an open-source PSD library, in your browser. It uses that composite whenever it is present, so the JPG matches the design exactly. If the composite is missing or blank, the visible layers are combined in the browser using their opacity, blend modes, masks and clipping, though layer styles and adjustment layers cannot be applied.

JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background colour, white by default. The image is then compressed at the quality you set, 92% by default. Pixel dimensions stay exactly as in the PSD, so a 3000-pixel artboard gives a 3000-pixel JPG.

Key features of PSD to JPG

Free, no Photoshop needed

Convert PSD files in a batch with no subscription and no watermark. Drop a batch of design files and download every JPG at once in a single ZIP.

Matches the saved composite

When the PSD includes its flattened image, the JPG is that image at the original dimensions. Effects, text and smart objects appear exactly as Photoshop rendered them when the file was last saved.

Faster than opening Photoshop

There is no app to launch and no file transfer. A typical PSD converts in a few seconds after the reader loads on first use; very large files with hundreds of layers need more time and memory.

PSD viewer on any device

Open Photoshop files on a Chromebook, a Windows laptop without Adobe software, an iPad or an Android phone. It works in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, and the JPG saves straight to your device.

Keyboard-friendly controls

The quality slider responds to the arrow keys, the background colour picker is labelled, and conversion progress is read aloud by screen readers. The page also works in dark mode, at high browser zoom and on narrow screens, with no timer.

Unreleased designs stay private

Client artwork, product packaging and brand concepts are read in your browser and never sent to a server. That keeps work covered by a non-disclosure agreement on your own machine.

What makes EZ Compress's PSD to JPG different

1

Falls back to the layers

If a PSD was saved without its flattened image, many viewers show a blank or grey canvas. This converter combines the visible layers itself and tells you that it did, so you still get a usable picture.

2

Your choice of background

Pick any background colour for transparent areas, not just white. A dark background suits a logo with light lettering, and a brand colour suits social media graphics.

3

PSB files accepted too

Large Document Format files, the PSB variant used for huge posters and panoramas, can be dropped alongside regular PSDs. Very large documents are limited only by your device's memory.

4

Batch conversion with ZIP

Drop a whole set of design files and download every JPG together in one ZIP, which is handy when a designer sends a full run of social media variations.

Why use PSD to JPG?

Use it whenever you receive a Photoshop file and only need to look at it or share it. You can convert psd to jpg to approve a design on your phone, attach a preview to an email, add a mockup to a slide deck or post a finished graphic online, all without installing anything.

It also works as a quick psd viewer when you are not sure what a file contains. Drop it in, check the preview and keep the JPG, or switch to PSD to PNG if you need transparent areas preserved. Photoshop to jpg at 92% quality looks identical on screen while being far smaller than the layered original.

PSD to JPG: frequently asked questions

How do I open a PSD file without Photoshop?
Drop it on this page. The design is read in your browser and saved as a JPG you can view and download. No Photoshop, GIMP or other software is needed, and it works on computers, tablets and phones.
Are layers kept in the JPG?
No. JPG is a single flat image, so you get the final composite of the design. Keep the PSD if you need to edit layers later; the JPG is for viewing and sharing.
Why does my PSD look different or blank?
The PSD was probably saved with Maximize Compatibility turned off, so it has no flattened image. The converter then combines the visible layers itself, but layer styles such as drop shadows and adjustment layers are not applied. Re-save the PSD with that option on for an exact result.
What JPG quality should I use?
The default 92% looks identical to the original on screen. Use 95–100% for print proofs, or 70–80% for quick previews sent by email or chat. Higher quality always means a larger file.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG cannot store transparency, so those areas are filled with the background colour you choose, white by default. If you need a transparent logo or cut-out, use PSD to PNG instead.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. Very large PSDs, hundreds of megabytes with many layers, need a lot of memory and may fail on phones. A laptop or desktop computer handles big files best.
Can I convert PSD to JPG on an iPhone?
Yes. Open the page in Safari, tap the drop area and pick the PSD from Files, Mail or iCloud Drive. The JPG is saved to your device and can be added to Photos from there.
Is my design sent to a server?
No. The PSD is read in your browser and the JPG is created on your device. Your file stays with you, which you can confirm in the browser's network tab while it converts.
Are layers kept?
No. JPG is a flat image, so you get the final composite exactly as the PSD looks.
Is there a size limit?
No fixed limit, but very large PSDs (several hundred MB) need a lot of memory.
