Terms of Service
Last updated 12 October 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") set out the rules for using EZ Compress (ezcompress.org). By using the site or any of its tools, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
In these Terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean the operator of EZ Compress (ezcompress.org), and "you" means anyone who uses the site.
1. Using the site
EZ Compress is free to use, and we don't charge for the tools. There is no paid plan, and creating an account is optional.
Daily free runs
Each visitor gets a free daily allowance of tool runs: currently 10 runs a day without an account and 20 with a free account. One run is one click of a tool's process button, so a batch of files counts as a single run. Allowances reset at midnight UTC. Runs for visitors without an account are counted per IP address, so people who share a network connection may share an allowance.
The allowance is there so the site stays fast and free for everyone, and it is offered on a fair use basis. We may change the size of the allowances, switch them off, or change how runs are counted at any time, with or without notice. When you reach your allowance, you can come back after the reset, or create a free account for more runs.
Free accounts
To create an account, you need an email address that you control and a password, and you must confirm the email address with the code we send. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens on your account.
- Accounts are personal. You must not share an account with other people.
- You must not create accounts in bulk, or use several accounts, to get around the daily allowance.
- You must not use scripts, proxies or other tricks to get around the allowance or the way runs are counted.
We may suspend, limit or disable accounts that are used abusively, including accounts that are shared or created in bulk to get around limits, and we may block access from addresses or networks that abuse the service. You can delete your account at any time on the account page.
We aim to keep the site available and working well, but we can't promise that it will always be online, error free or unchanged. We may add, change, pause or remove tools or features at any time, with or without notice. Most tools run in your browser, so they also depend on your device, browser and connection.
2. How the tools work
File tools process your files entirely in your browser. Your files are never sent to our server, and we cannot see, store or recover them. Keep your own copies of anything important, because we have no way to get a file back for you.
Some tools download open-source libraries, fonts or AI models from public content delivery networks the first time you use them. Our Privacy Policy explains this in more detail.
3. Acceptable use
You may only use the site in a lawful way. In particular, you agree that you will:
- only process files that you own or have the right to process, copy, convert or edit;
- not use the tools to create, edit or share illegal content, including content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or privacy;
- not try to disrupt, overload or damage the site, its server or its contact form, for example through automated mass requests or attempts to bypass rate limits or the daily run allowance;
- not try to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site, including the content management area;
- not use the site to send spam or harmful code.
Unlock PDF
The Unlock PDF tool is only for PDF files that you own or are authorised to open. It removes restrictions from a file when you already know the password or have the right to remove them. It is not a password cracker, and you must not use it to get around protection on documents you are not entitled to access.
4. Your content and output
The files you open and the results you create belong to you (or to whoever owns the original material). We claim no rights over them. Because processing happens on your device, we don't receive them in the first place.
You are responsible for your files, your output and how you use them, including making sure you have any permissions you need.
5. Our content
The site's own code, design, name, logo, branding and written content (including blog articles and tool descriptions) belong to the operator of EZ Compress (ezcompress.org). You may link to the site and share links to our pages. You may not copy or republish the site, or large parts of its content, as your own without our written permission.
Open-source components
Many tools are built on open-source libraries, such as PDF.js, pdf-lib and Tesseract.js. Each of these components keeps its own licence, and nothing in these Terms changes or overrides those licences.
6. Check your results
Please review every output before you rely on it, share it or delete your original file. Results depend on your input, your settings and your browser. Some things to know:
- Compression is often lossy. Smaller images, PDFs, audio and video files usually lose some quality. Keep your original if quality matters.
- Conversions are approximate. Excel and PowerPoint to PDF conversions render pages as images, so text in the PDF may not be selectable. PDF to Excel can place data in the wrong columns, especially with complex layouts.
- OCR can misread text. Text recognition works best on clear, high-contrast images and may get characters, words or layouts wrong.
7. Third-party services
Four tools send some of your input to outside services to work:
- Grammar Checker sends your text to the LanguageTool API (languagetool.org) when you click Check.
- Domain Age Checker sends the domain names you enter to rdap.org and registry RDAP servers.
- YouTube Tag Generator sends your keyword to YouTube/Google autocomplete, but only if "Include real YouTube search suggestions" is turned on.
- Image Translator recognises text locally. If your browser has no built-in translator and you click "Open in Google Translate", the recognised text goes to Google.
These services are run by other companies under their own terms and policies. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their availability, accuracy or how they handle your data.
8. No warranty
The site and all tools are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability or non-infringement. We don't guarantee that any tool will meet your needs or produce a particular result. See our Disclaimer for more.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, files, profits, business or goodwill, arising from your use of the site or your inability to use it. This includes loss caused by a tool producing an unexpected or incorrect result.
Because the site is free, our total liability to you for any claim relating to it is limited to zero, or to the lowest amount the law allows if it does not allow zero. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Links to other websites
The site may link to other websites. We don't control them and are not responsible for their content or practices.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If you keep using the site after an update, you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable where the operator is established, without affecting any rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the country where you live.
13. Contact
If you have a question about these Terms, please get in touch through the contact page. You can also read our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
