PNG screenshots and exports are often 5–10× larger than they need to be. Converting to JPG shrinks them dramatically for email, forms and the web. Transparent areas are filled with a colour you choose.
What is PNG to JPG?
Our png to jpg converter shrinks bulky PNG images by re-saving them as JPG, the format built for photographs and everyday sharing. Screenshots, phone camera exports and design downloads are often saved as PNG and end up 5–10 times larger than they need to be for email, chat or an upload form.
The tool converts a single file or a whole batch in your browser, lets you set the JPG quality, and fills any transparent areas with a background colour you pick. Your images stay on your device, so it is safe for screenshots that show private information.
How to convert PNG to JPG
- Drop PNG files (batch is fine).
- Pick quality: 85–90% is the sweet spot for photos and screenshots.
- Download JPGs or a ZIP.
How PNG to JPG works
PNG is lossless. It records every pixel exactly and compresses the result with DEFLATE, which works brilliantly for flat colours and sharp text but poorly for photos, where almost every pixel differs slightly from its neighbour. A 12-megapixel photo saved as PNG can easily top 15 MB.
JPG takes a lossy approach designed around human vision. It separates brightness from colour, stores colour at lower resolution because we notice it less, splits the image into 8×8 blocks and rounds away the fine detail each block contains. The quality setting controls how aggressive that rounding is.
In your browser, the converter draws the PNG onto a canvas, paints your chosen background colour behind any transparent pixels (JPG has no alpha channel) and encodes the result with the browser's JPEG encoder. At 85–90% quality most photos and screenshots look the same as the PNG at a fraction of the size.
Key features of PNG to JPG
Free bulk shrinking
Convert a batch of PNGs in one run, with no watermark on the results. Drop an entire screenshots folder at once and download every JPG in one ZIP when it finishes.
Quality you control
Choose any JPG quality from 40% to 100%. Around 90% keeps screenshot text crisp, 80–85% suits photos for the web, and lower settings squeeze files for strict upload limits. Pixel dimensions are never changed.
Seconds, not minutes
Nothing is sent to a server and nothing queues, so even a large batch converts as fast as your device can encode. Most screenshots finish in well under a second each, on a laptop or a phone.
Anywhere you browse
It works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad. Convert phone screenshots straight from your gallery, no app needed. Install it as an app from the browser menu if you convert often.
Built for all users
Use Tab, Enter and arrow keys to run every control. Labels are read correctly by screen readers, progress is announced in a live region, and the page works with dark mode, zoom and narrow screens.
Screenshots stay private
Screenshots often show bank details, chats or work systems. Here they are converted inside your browser and never sent anywhere, which you can confirm in the browser's network tab. Nothing is stored afterwards either.
What makes EZ Compress's PNG to JPG different
Choose the fill colour
Transparent PNGs are flattened onto the colour you choose, not an unpredictable black. Match a website background, a slide theme or simply keep the default white for documents and forms.
Honest quality slider
You see the real JPG quality setting rather than a vague Low, Medium or High. That makes results predictable and repeatable when you convert the same kind of image again next week.
Batch on your own device
Large screenshot folders and photo exports are converted on your device in one go. No waiting for dozens of files to reach a server before the first JPG is ready. Every file keeps its name.
Why use PNG to JPG?
Convert PNG to JPG when file size is the problem. Email providers cap attachments, upload forms reject anything over a set limit, and chat apps compress heavily anyway. Turning a 6 MB PNG screenshot into a 600 KB JPG solves all three without visible damage.
It is also the right fix for photos that were saved as PNG by mistake, by a design tool or by an Android screenshot. Change PNG to JPG for anything photographic, and keep PNG only for logos, line art and images that genuinely need transparency.
Who can use PNG to JPG?
Support and IT staff
Shrink screenshot-heavy tickets and how-to guides so they attach to emails and help desk systems that enforce small attachment limits.
Applicants filling online forms
Convert a scanned or photographed document saved as PNG into a JPG that fits the form's size limit and accepted file types.
Canva and Figma users
Design exports often default to PNG. Convert photo-heavy graphics to JPG for social posts and email newsletters where file size counts.
Bloggers
Swap large PNG photos for JPG before uploading to your CMS, cutting page weight and storage use without visible loss.
Android users
Android screenshots are PNG. Convert a batch to JPG before sharing them on platforms or with contacts that limit file sizes.
Settings explained
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Quality | Higher keeps more detail but makes a larger file. 80–90% is visually identical to the original for most photos. |
| Background for transparency | Colour used where the source had transparency, since this output format cannot store it. |
