Convert JPG to PNG when you need a lossless file for editing, or a format a tool insists on. Note that converting does not restore detail lost by JPG compression; it just stops further loss.
What is JPG to PNG?
Our jpg to png converter re-saves JPG and JPEG images in the lossless PNG format, so they stop degrading every time you edit and save them. It is useful when a website, game, print service or app insists on PNG, or when the image is about to go through several rounds of changes.
Conversion happens in your browser, handles batches, and keeps the exact pixel dimensions. It does not send anything to a server or add a watermark. One thing to know up front: a PNG copy preserves the current quality but cannot restore detail the JPG already lost.

How JPG to PNG works
Every time a JPG is saved, the encoder rounds away some fine detail in each 8×8 block of pixels. Open, edit and save it again and it rounds again, so artefacts such as blockiness, colour smearing and halos around edges build up. This is called generation loss, and it is the main reason to switch formats before heavy editing.
PNG stores pixels losslessly. Once the JPG is decoded and written as PNG, every later save reproduces the image exactly. PNG files of photos are much larger, though, because lossless compression cannot discard anything and photographic noise is hard to compress.
In this tool, your browser decodes the JPG, applies its orientation tag so the picture is upright, and writes a PNG. Converting does not make the image transparent: JPG never had an alpha channel, so the PNG has the same solid background until you remove it with an editor or background tool.
Key features of JPG to PNG
Free with no strings
Convert a batch of JPG and JPEG files to PNG in one run, without watching a countdown or getting a watermark. Batch conversion and ZIP download are available to everyone.
Exact copy, no new loss
The PNG reproduces the decoded JPG pixel for pixel at the original width and height. No resizing, no colour reduction and no extra compression step is added along the way.
Quick even for batches
Your browser decodes JPG natively, so files convert as soon as you press the button. Most images take a second or less, and there is no server step to slow things down on mobile data.
Desktop and mobile
Works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad. Convert photos from your phone's gallery directly, with no app to install. You can also install it as an app.
Clear, accessible layout
Keyboard users can run the whole tool with Tab and Enter, and screen readers hear labelled controls and progress updates. Dark mode, browser zoom and small screens are all handled, with no time limits.
Stays on your device
Your JPGs are processed inside your browser tab and never reach a server. That keeps personal photos, client work and scanned documents on your device, which you can confirm in the network tab.
What makes EZ Compress's JPG to PNG different
Honest about quality
Some tools suggest that converting to PNG improves a photo. It does not, and we say so. You get an exact lossless copy that stops further loss, which is what PNG is actually good for.
Orientation fixed for you
Phone JPGs often rely on a rotation tag that some apps ignore. The tag is applied during conversion, so the PNG is stored upright and displays correctly everywhere. No more sideways portraits.
Clean output files
The PNG is written without the camera's EXIF and GPS data, so you are not passing on location or device details when you share the converted file. Keep the JPG if you need those details.
Why use JPG to PNG?
Convert JPG to PNG when a destination requires it. Some sticker and emoji makers, game mod tools, print-on-demand uploaders and school portals accept only PNG. A quick conversion gets you past the file type check without changing how the image looks.
It is also smart before editing. If you plan to crop, annotate, add text or adjust colours over several sessions, change JPEG to PNG first so each save is lossless, then export one final JPG or WEBP at the end for sharing.
Who can use JPG to PNG?
Photo editors
Convert JPGs to PNG before multi-step retouching so repeated saves do not stack compression artefacts on top of each other.
Game modders
Many texture and skin tools expect PNG. Convert JPG textures first, then edit them without the image degrading on every save.
Teachers making worksheets
Turn JPG diagrams into PNG before adding labels and arrows, keeping lines and text sharp through each revision. Labels stay crisp when printed.
Sticker and emoji makers
Convert JPG artwork to PNG, then remove the background in a separate tool to create transparent stickers for chat apps.
Students submitting assignments
Meet portals that list PNG as the only accepted image type by converting your JPG scans and photos in seconds.
