A client sends a PSD and you just need to see or use the image. This converter reads the flattened composite stored inside the PSD and saves it as PNG, keeping transparent areas, entirely in your browser. No Photoshop is needed, and the design never leaves your device.

What is PSD to PNG?

Our psd to png converter turns Photoshop documents into PNG images in your browser, keeping transparent areas transparent. It suits logos, icons, cut-out product shots and interface elements, where a white box around the artwork would ruin the result.

PNG is lossless, so every pixel of the design is saved exactly, with crisp text edges and smooth gradients. That makes it the right format when you need a Photoshop file as an asset for a website, an app, a presentation or another design tool, rather than just a preview to look at.

How to convert PSD to PNG

  1. Drop one or more PSD files.
  2. Click Convert.
  3. Download the PNG files or a ZIP.

How PSD to PNG works

Transparency in a PSD comes from the alpha channel: each pixel carries a value from fully transparent to fully opaque, which is how soft shadows and anti-aliased edges blend into whatever sits behind them. PNG stores the same alpha channel, so a logo exported here can be placed on any background and still look right.

The converter reads the flattened composite that Photoshop saves inside a PSD, using the open-source ag-psd library. When that composite is not there, it rebuilds the image from the visible layers, applying opacity, blend modes, layer masks and clipping masks. Hidden layers stay hidden, which is useful when a designer left alternative versions switched off.

PNG compression is lossless: the file gets smaller by finding patterns, not by discarding detail. Flat artwork compresses very well, while large photographic PSDs produce big PNG files. If size matters more than transparency, PSD to JPG gives a much smaller file.

Key features of PSD to PNG

Free, no subscription

Turn Photoshop files into PNGs without a subscription or watermark. Drop a set of icons or a folder of mockups and download them all together in one ZIP.

Lossless, alpha intact

Every pixel is stored exactly, and the full alpha channel is kept, so soft shadows, glows and anti-aliased edges blend correctly on any background. Dimensions match the PSD canvas to the pixel.

Ready in seconds

No file transfer and no app launch: a typical design converts in a few seconds after the PSD reader loads for the first time. Huge, layer-heavy files take longer because the work happens on your device.

Open PSDs anywhere

Use it on Windows, macOS, Linux, Chromebooks, iPad, iPhone and Android, in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. It is a handy way to open a PSD file on a machine that has no design software.

Nothing to configure

There are no settings to get wrong: drop the file and press Convert. The button works from the keyboard, progress is announced to screen readers, and dark mode and browser zoom are fully supported.

Brand assets kept private

Unreleased logos, app screens and campaign artwork are processed in your browser and never sent to a server, so confidential client work stays on your own device from start to finish.

What makes EZ Compress's PSD to PNG different

1

Transparency done right

Many quick converters flatten PSDs onto white. Here, transparent pixels stay transparent and semi-transparent ones keep their exact opacity, so cut-outs drop straight into a web page or slide.

2

Respects hidden layers

When the converter has to combine layers itself, layers you switched off in Photoshop stay off, and masks and clipping groups are applied, so you see the version the designer intended.

3

Tells you when it improvised

If the PSD had no flattened image, the result note says how many layers were combined and warns that styles and adjustment layers were not applied, so you know to double-check the output.

Why use PSD to PNG?

Pick PNG when the artwork will sit on top of something else. Convert psd to png for a logo in a website header, an icon in an app, a product cut-out on a coloured banner or a watermark for photos. Photoshop to png keeps the edges clean where a JPG would add a solid background.

It is also the better choice for UI mockups and graphics with text, because lossless compression keeps lettering sharp with no blocky artefacts. Need a smaller file afterwards? Run the PNG through Compress PNG, or use PSD to JPG when transparency is not needed.

PSD to PNG: frequently asked questions

How do I convert PSD to PNG with a transparent background?
Drop the PSD and press Convert. Transparent areas in the design stay transparent in the PNG automatically. If the background comes out solid, it was a filled layer in the PSD; hide that layer in Photoshop and save again.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than a JPG?
PNG is lossless, so it keeps every pixel and cannot throw detail away to save space. For photographic designs that means large files. Use PSD to JPG if you do not need transparency, or compress the PNG afterwards.
Are layers kept in the PNG?
No. PNG is a flat image, so you get the final composite. To get one layer on its own, hide the others in Photoshop and save, or ask the designer for separate exports.
Why does my PSD come out blank or missing effects?
Files saved with Maximize Compatibility off contain no flattened image, so the visible layers are combined in the browser instead. Drop shadows, strokes and adjustment layers are not applied in that case. Re-saving the PSD with the option on gives an exact match.
Can I use this as a PSD viewer?
Yes. Drop a PSD to see what it contains and download the PNG if you want to keep it. It is the quickest way to open a PSD file on a computer or phone without design software.
Is the image quality reduced?
No. PNG keeps every pixel exactly as in the composite, at the original width and height. Nothing is resized, and nothing is recompressed in a lossy way.
Does PSD to PNG work on Android?
Yes. Open the page in Chrome on Android, choose the PSD from your downloads or Drive, and the PNG is saved to your phone. Very large PSDs may need more memory than older phones have.
Is my PSD sent to a server?
No. The file is read and converted in your browser and never leaves your device. That keeps confidential client work and unreleased branding private.
Are layers kept?
No. PNG is a flat image, so you get the final composite exactly as the PSD looks.
Why does my PSD look different or blank?
The PSD must be saved with "Maximize compatibility" turned on, which stores the flattened image. Without it, the layers are combined in the browser and some effects may be missing.
