Need to send a stack of PDFs as one attachment, or upload a folder of documents to a portal that only accepts a single ZIP? Drop the PDFs and get one archive. Because PDFs are already compressed internally, zipping alone saves little, so by default each PDF is compressed first, which typically cuts the total by half or more for scanned documents.

What is PDF to ZIP?

Our pdf to zip tool bundles one or many PDF files into a single ZIP archive in your browser. By default it also compresses each PDF before zipping, because ZIP on its own barely shrinks PDFs, so you end up with one smaller file that is easy to email or upload.

It solves two problems at once. Portals and email services often accept only one attachment, and many have size limits. Instead of sending fifteen separate PDFs, you send one archive that unpacks into the original file names on any computer or phone.

How to convert PDF to ZIP

  1. Drop PDF files.
  2. Keep "Compress each PDF first" on for the smallest archive.
  3. Download the ZIP.

How PDF to ZIP works

ZIP is a container format that stores several files together and can compress each one using the Deflate method, which finds repeated patterns and stores them once. That works well on plain text, spreadsheets and code. PDFs, though, are usually compressed internally already, and their photos are JPEGs, so Deflate finds little left to squeeze.

That is why this tool compresses the PDFs themselves first. Each PDF's images are recompressed at the Recommended level (scaled to a sensible resolution and re-encoded), while text stays as real, selectable text. If recompressing does not make a file smaller, the original is kept.

The files are then packed into a ZIP at the highest Deflate level, keeping their names and dates; duplicate names get a number added. Scanned documents often drop by half or more. Everything, from compression to building the archive, happens in your browser.

Key features of PDF to ZIP

Free, any number of PDFs

Zip as many PDFs as your device can handle into one archive, with no file count limit and no watermark added to any document. You can also name the archive before you download it.

Smaller than a plain ZIP

Because each PDF is compressed before zipping, the archive is often far smaller than the originals, especially for scans. Text stays selectable, and any file that would not shrink is kept unchanged.

Built on your device

Nothing leaves your device, so a handful of PDFs are zipped in seconds. Heavily scanned files take longer to recompress, depending on your device, but you never wait in a server queue.

Open on any system

ZIP opens natively on Windows, macOS, iPhone, iPad and Android. The tool itself runs in Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, so you can create the archive on a phone or a desktop.

Simple accessible controls

Just two labelled options, a compression switch and a file name field, both keyboard operable. Progress is announced to screen readers, and the page works with zoom and dark mode.

Documents stay with you

Compression and zipping happen in your browser, so tax papers, contracts and medical records are never stored on a server. You can verify that in the network tab, and the tool works offline once loaded.

What makes EZ Compress's PDF to ZIP different

1

Compresses before zipping

Most zip pdf tools just wrap files in an archive, which saves almost nothing. This one shrinks the images inside each PDF first, which is where the real savings are.

2

Never makes a file worse

If compressing a PDF would not make it smaller, the original is placed in the ZIP unchanged. You never end up with a bigger copy, and already-optimised files are left alone.

3

No whole folder sent to a server

Sending a batch of documents to a server is slow and exposes them. Here the work is done locally, so even large batches are private and only limited by your device.

Why use PDF to ZIP?

Use it when a form or a person wants a single attachment. Visa applications, tenders, university portals and accountants often ask for a set of documents as one ZIP. Dropping your PDFs here produces exactly that, with the original file names intact so the recipient knows what is what.

It also helps with size limits. Email services commonly cap attachments around 20–25 MB, and scanned PDFs add up quickly. Leaving the compress pdf to zip option on shrinks the scans inside before archiving, so you can zip PDF files that would otherwise be far too large to send.

Who can use PDF to ZIP?

Tender and bid writers

Bundle method statements, certificates and pricing PDFs into one compressed ZIP that meets a procurement portal's single-file upload rule and size limit.

Accountants

Send a client's year of statements and receipts as one archive, shrunk for email, without handing financial documents to an online service.

Visa and immigration applicants

Package passport scans, bank statements and letters into a single ZIP when an embassy or agent requests all documents together.

Architects and engineers

Zip a set of drawing PDFs and reports into one file for a client or contractor, keeping every sheet's original file name.

Teachers and exam officers

Collect marked papers or scanned coursework PDFs into one compressed archive for moderation or submission to an exam board portal.

PDF to ZIP: frequently asked questions

How do I convert PDF to ZIP?
Drop your PDF files, keep Compress each PDF first switched on for the smallest result, set a file name if you like and click Create ZIP. The archive downloads straight away.
Why is the ZIP almost the same size as the PDFs?
PDF content is already compressed, so zipping alone saves little. Keep Compress each PDF first switched on to shrink the images inside them before they are archived.
Does compressing affect the text in my PDFs?
No. Only the images inside each PDF are recompressed. Text stays as real text, so it remains sharp, selectable and searchable after you unzip the files.
How do I open a ZIP?
Double-click it on Windows or macOS, or tap it in the Files app on iPhone and Android. The PDFs are extracted with their original names.
Can I zip other file types here?
This page accepts PDFs only. To bundle images, Office files or a mix of documents, use the ZIP File Compressor instead, which accepts any file type.
Is there a size limit?
Your files never go to a server, so there is no server limit. Very large batches are limited only by your device's memory; on a phone, zip a few dozen files at a time.
Do my PDFs leave my computer?
No. Compression and zipping run in your browser, and the files never leave your device. You can watch the network tab while it works to confirm that nothing is sent.
