Which image converter tool do I need?
What are image converter tools?
An image format is the set of rules a file uses to store pixels, and not every app understands every set. A photo converter rewrites the same picture in a format the destination accepts: HEIC into JPG for a Windows PC or a web form, WEBP into PNG for an older editor, PNG into WEBP for a faster website.
This hub collects 17 tools for that job. Most are one-click pairs such as HEIC to JPG or AVIF to PNG, and the general converter accepts mixed batches. Others handle special cases: tracing a PNG or JPG logo into a scalable SVG, packing a multi-size favicon, or turning an image into a Base64 data URI for web pages and back again.
How image converter tools work
Formats differ in three main ways: compression, transparency and support. JPG uses lossy compression and has no transparency, which suits photos. PNG is lossless and keeps transparent areas, which suits logos and screenshots. WEBP and AVIF are newer codecs that can do both, usually at a smaller size, and HEIC is the HEVC-based format iPhones use by default.
To convert image format, the tool decodes the file into raw pixels on a canvas, then encodes those pixels with the target codec. Where the target lacks transparency, as JPG does, transparent areas are filled with a background colour you choose. Camera data (EXIF) is removed by default, and you can keep it when the output is JPG.
Vector output is a different process. Raster images are grids of pixels, while SVG describes shapes as paths. Tracing groups similar colours into regions and outlines them, which works well for logos and flat icons but gives photographs a posterised look. All of this runs in your browser.
Key features of our image converter tools
Free batch conversion
Convert one image or a whole set with no watermark, using the free runs you get each day. Batch converters return every file in a single ZIP, so an album of iPhone photos takes one click to download instead of fifty.
Exact sizes and colours
SVG to PNG renders at the exact pixel width you type, PNG to ICO packs icons from 16 to 256 px into one file, and you control JPG quality and the background colour used wherever transparency has to be flattened.
No server queue
Each image is decoded and re-encoded on your own device, so most conversions finish in about a second. There is no server round trip to wait for, which makes a real difference with large HEIC albums on a slow connection.
Desktop and mobile
The converters need nothing more than an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, iPadOS or Android. Convert HEIC photos straight from an iPhone camera roll, or drag WEBP files from a desktop folder onto the page.
Accessible controls
Format menus respond to arrow keys, buttons and fields have clear labels, and progress is announced through a live region for screen reader users. There are no time limits, a dark mode toggle is included, and the layout works at high zoom.
Photos stay private
Images are converted in your browser and never sent to a server, which matters for personal photos and screenshots. Location and camera data are stripped by default, so a converted holiday photo does not reveal where it was taken unless you choose to keep that data.
What makes EZCompressor's image converter tools different
Mixed batches in one go
The general image converter accepts HEIC, AVIF, WEBP, PNG, BMP, GIF, SVG and JPG together and outputs them all as JPG, PNG or WEBP. You do not need to sort your files by type first.
Real vector tracing
PNG to SVG and JPG to SVG trace shapes into genuine vector paths with an adjustable colour count and detail level, rather than simply wrapping a bitmap inside an SVG file, so the result scales cleanly.
Extras for web pages
Image to Base64 gives a data URI, raw Base64, an img tag or a CSS background rule ready to paste, and PNG to ICO hands you the HTML tag for your favicon. Base64 to Image reverses the process.
Metadata off by default
Converted files can quietly carry GPS coordinates from the original photo. Here EXIF is removed unless you switch it on, so pictures you convert are safer to post online or send to strangers.
Why use EZCompressor for image converter tasks?
Format problems tend to appear at the worst moment: a job portal refuses an iPhone HEIC photo, a design tool cannot open a WEBP saved from a website, or a print shop asks for PNG. A free image converter that runs in the browser fixes each of those in seconds, on whichever device you happen to be using.
Converting the other way is just as useful. Turning PNG and JPG into WEBP usually makes web images noticeably smaller, which helps page speed. Developers can generate favicons and inline Base64 icons without opening an editor, and designers can trace a small logo into an SVG that scales cleanly. An image format converter online that does all this on your own device keeps client work and personal photos private.
Who uses our image converter tools?
iPhone users
Turn HEIC photos into JPG so they open on Windows PCs, upload to forms that only accept JPG, and print at shops that reject Apple's format.
Web developers
Convert PNG and JPG assets to WEBP for faster pages, build a multi-size favicon.ico, and embed small icons as Base64 data URIs in CSS or HTML.
Designers
Trace a client's PNG or JPG logo into an editable SVG, or export an SVG at an exact pixel size for a presentation or social post.
Office workers
Change WEBP images saved from websites into PNG or JPG so they paste into documents, slides and older software without errors.
Online sellers
Convert supplier images from AVIF or WEBP into the JPG or PNG files that marketplace listings and email newsletters accept.
